In terms of natural beauty, the landscape of the Uckermark, with its 600 lakes and 2,800 km of waterways, ranks among the best in Germany. The region's glorious scenery provides the perfect backdrop for many different sporting and recreational activities or for simple rest and relaxation. The many water, bicycle and walking trails take travellers to beautiful, picturesque spots in the Lower Oder Valley National Park.
Schwedt's sports and cultural facilities attract visitors from far beyond the city limits. The theatre known as the Uckermärkische Bühnen Schwedt boasts attendance rates among the highest in Brandenburg.
With support from regional and state governments, Schwedt has developed into a highly industrious and innovative city.
In 2009, the city of Schwedt was awarded the title of "Family-Friendly City" due to its outstanding offerings in the way of day care, social services and sports facilities.
